Hey fellow travelers!

I just got back from an epic 12-day adventure in Peru, and I couldn't wait to share my experiences, tips, and must-see spots with you all. Whether you're flying to Peru soon or just dreaming about it, let me take you on a virtual journey through this beautiful country. From the bustling streets of Lima to the breathtaking Sacred Valley and The Andes, here’s a peek into the magic of Peru!

Day 1-3: Exploring Lima – The City of Kings

Kicking off my adventure, I touched down in Lima, Peru’s vibrant capital. If you’re wondering about the best month to visit Peru, I opted for May, as it offers pleasant weather across the country. Lima is often just a stopover city for many travelers, but trust me; it’s packed with charm and culture that deserves exploration.

Sightseeing & Activities:

Start your day at the historic Plaza Mayor, a UNESCO World Heritage site, surrounded by stunning colonial architecture. The nearby Monastery of San Francisco is a must-see, combining art, history, and some slightly eerie catacombs.

For a dose of contemporary Peru, head over to the trendy district of Barranco. It's Lima’s artsy soul, filled with street murals, artisan shops, and the famous Puente de los Suspiros (Bridge of Sighs).

Foodie Alert:

Don't miss Central, ranked among the world’s best restaurants, if you're up for splurging on an unforgettable meal. Alternatively, try La Mar for some of the best ceviche Lima has to offer. For a budget-friendly option, head to Panchita for delicious anticuchos (grilled beef heart skewers).

Tips:

- Grab a local SIM card for seamless navigation and connectivity.

- Be cautious with Uber. While it's generally safe, arrange pickups in well-lit, populated areas.

Day 4-6: Cusco – The Gateway to the Sacred Valley

Next, I flew to Cusco, the historical capital of the Inca Empire, and the starting point for many adventures. Cusco sightseeing is an absolute must!

Sightseeing & Activities:

Explore the stunning Qorikancha Temple and the neighboring convent of Santo Domingo. Another essential stop is the majestic Sacsayhuamán, an impressive Incan fortress overlooking Cusco.

And of course, no visit to Cusco is complete without a day trip to the Sacred Valley. Here, you can browse the vibrant Pisac Market, wander through the ancient salt mines of Maras, and explore the magnificent agricultural terraces at Moray.

Unique Experience:

For an extraordinary overnight stay, I highly recommend the Sky Lodge Peru. Imagine sleeping in a transparent capsule hanging from a mountain, offering dazzling views and an exhilarating zip-line descent the following day!

Tips:

- Acclimatization is key! Spend a day relaxing in Cusco to adjust to the altitude. Coca tea is a natural remedy for altitude sickness.

- If you plan on visiting multiple ruins, get the Boleto Turístico to save on entrance fees.

Day 7-8: The Majestic Machu Picchu

From Cusco, I hopped on the scenic train ride to Machu Picchu. Valencia Travel Peru made the logistics a breeze, taking care of tickets and transportation with utmost precision.

The Experience:

There’s something magical about seeing Machu Picchu for the first time—it’s a moment that pictures simply can't capture. Wander through this ancient citadel, hiking to the famous Sun Gate for panoramic views. Don’t forget to snap a picture with a friendly llama!

Tips:

- Book tickets to Machu Picchu well in advance, especially during peak months.

- Choose an early morning or late afternoon slot to avoid the massive midday crowds.

- Bring along your passport; it's required for entry.

Day 9-10: Chachapoyas – Gocta Waterfalls

After the bustling tourist scenes of Cusco and Machu Picchu, I flew north to Chachapoyas for a touch of tranquility. Known as the "Cloud People," the unique culture and landscapes here are sensational.

Lodging:

Gocta Lodge Peru offers incredible views of the Gocta Falls right from your room. It’s the perfect spot for relaxation after a long day of hiking.

Activities:

The main draw here is visiting the awe-inspiring Gocta Waterfall, one of the world’s tallest. The hike is moderate, with lush jungle paths and occasional sightings of colorful toucans and monkeys.

Tips:

- The trails can be muddy after rain, so pack proper hiking boots.

- Hire a local guide to enrich your experience with stories of Chachapoyan history and culture.

Day 11: Lake Titicaca – The World's Highest Navigable Lake

Traversing to the south, my next stop was Lake Titicaca. Known for its deep blue waters and fascinating floating islands, it’s a magical spot that you shouldn't miss.

Trip Planning:

Plan your trip with TripAdvisor reviews in mind. Private tours are available and provide more flexibility and insight than group tours.

Highlights:

Visit the Uros Islands, remarkable floating islands handcrafted from totora reeds. Meeting the Uros people and learning about their unique lifestyle was truly eye-opening.

Tips:

- The lake is at a high altitude, so don’t forget to take things slow.

- Consider an overnight stay on Isla del Sol to immerse yourself in local culture further.

Day 12: Return to Lima and Farewell Dinner

Wrapping up my journey, I returned to Lima for one last evening before flying home. This time, I explored some more of the lesser-known places to visit in Lima, Peru, including the Larco Museum with its impressive collection of pre-Columbian art.

Farewell Feast:

I indulged in a final Peruvian meal at Maido, a Nikkei fusion restaurant that marries Japanese and Peruvian cuisines in a spectacular way.
